Acts 1:3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.Acts 1:4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.Acts 1:5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."Acts 1:6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"
In Acts 1:3, Jesus spent 40 days talking with the disciples about the kingdom of God, but then 3 verses later, the disciples asked Jesus a stupid question about the "kingdom," as if they have not learned anything from the last 40 days! I thought, why would Luke, the author of Acts, record such an embarrassing incident about himself and his fellow disciples? I think Luke is not ashamed to tell us that we are stupid people, even when we're in the presence of the Lord, we seldom really get it. It's a good thing that, from time to time, the Bible reminds us that we're stubborn and stupid people.
